Tempo Mapping An alternative to the default click plug-in in Pro Tools, “TL Metro” gives the user more control over sounds as well as a mix of the beats and sub-beats that are played by the plug-in. Of course no performance can be totally perfect, but it’s easier to fix a track played to a click than not. You should be using one every time you record so that performances are close to time. most DAWs will have a click track plug-in that follows the tempo ruler or the transport tempo control.

You should probably know this, but click tracks serve as a metronome during recordings. Click Tracks The default click plug-in in Pro Tools 10, imaginatively titled “Click”. Other DAWs will probably have similar means of doing what we’re doing here, though, it’s just a case of finding them, the workflow is probably similar. What I will say about this lesson is that it leans heavily in the direction of Pro Tools. For now, quantisation is snapping MIDI or audio data to the grid so that it’s in time. In digital audio this can involve moving audio along the timeline to fit in with the bars and beats grid, there’s also a form of quantisation used in the conversion process between analogue and digital audio – but that’s well beyond the scope of this lesson. Generally speaking, quantisation is the process of moving content into line with a given grid. I’ll use the English spelling unless I’m referring to a control or label in the software. Note that Quantising with an s is the proper English spelling – Quantizing with a z is the American spelling – labels in your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) will probably use the American spelling.
